Korea Book CoverWhen American POWs of the Korean War were released at Inchon, South Korea, in August of 1953, they were ordered to sign a document pertaining to "Circular 131", stating that they would never disclose the details of their imprisonment to anyone. It was not until 1993, that they were finally given special clearance from the Department of Defense to reveal what had happened to them during captivity. Being the first Americans to come in contact with Communist indoctrination, it was feared that they had been brainwashed and that they would quickly spread what they had learned throughout the United States, then in the midst of the McCarthy Era. Today, 44 years later, these men step forward to tell in their own words what really happened to them before, during, and after the war.

In this new book, What Happened to American Prisoners of War in Korea?, shocking tales of torture, starvation, frozen death marches, and random liquidation are unveiled. These men were held for years by the brutal North Koreans, without regard to the Geneva Convention, under horrid conditions. More than half died during captivity. The book also reveals the extent to which captivity in this frozen inferno has affected the rest of their lives, both physically and emotionally.

This is the first publication to include listings of thousands of names of those who were held as POW during the Korean War, encompassing those who died in captivity, those who returned alive, and those who are still missing. Also included is the full listing of nearly 500 deaths secretly documented by PFC Johnny Johnson, whose story was recently told in a Readers Digest article entitled, "Johnson's List". This book was written to honor the forgotten prisoners of a forgotten war … who are truly distinguished, valiant and loyal Americans.
